The danger of continued pollution and the depletion of fossil fuel have become a major concern of people all over the world. The world needs energy, so now we are looking for alternative sources of energy to oil and coal. Energy is a vital element for the survival of man.
With the depletion of fossil fuel coming nearer, we must find or create alternative sources of energy.We need energy that will never be exhausted and will not harm the environment.
There are sustainable power resources available. these resources include Geothermal, Hydro, Wind and Solar.
The United States is the world's largest goethermal energy producer. Geothermal energy comes from underground. The Geysers, north of San Francisco is the planet's first and largest dry steam field. Several states have their own geothermal plants. These include Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona and Utah ,to name a few. To replenish the supply of steam needed for energy, sewage waste from nearby cities is pumped into the geothermal plant.
Hydro power is widely used in the United States. After the dams are built, there are no fuel costs involved to run the facility. Water is used to generate electricity and distributed to nearby areas.The U.S. revolutionized hydro power by building dams all across the country.
Wind is a great sustainable energy source. Over half of the states in America now have wind farms to help supply energy. As the dwindling supply of fossil fuel becomes more evident,wind power will be indispensable.
Solar power is the source of sustainable powers such as radiation,waves, and wind.Solar power can be harnessed through technology to give us light, heat, and cooling.Solar technology is comprised of two types. One type is passive and the other is active solar energy.
Passive solar captures the suns useful rays for things like skylights.
Active solar technologies use solar panels.{photovoltaic} Solar energy is collected and stored in thermal collectors The solar energy is then channeled through mechanical or electrical equipment for use.The primary concern of using solar power, is that there is no sun at night. Thermal storage systems can store the energy for later use.
Solar technology was very expensive until recently. DIY ENERGY is a way to build your own solar panels and save big money on your current electric bill. you can also save on heating in the winter months and reduce the dependence on oil for heat.
